FALL TERM 2014
Public Forum on Arming Campus Security
Tuesday, Oct. 7th, from 9:00am to 10:00am Smith Ballroom
The new PSU Board of Trustees may decide to transition Campus Security into an Armed Police Force without input from students
The Board of Trustees of Portland State University may be voting as soon as December (the next full Board meeting is December 11, 2014) to authorize the creation of a PSU Campus Police Department, employing sworn police officers in its ranks. This would expand police authority on campus, including its ability to cite for violations, apply for search warrants, and would result in armed patrol officer presence. While details about the transition dates remain unclear, the Board of Trustees met before the beginning of Fall term, September 11, attempting to pass the measure without student input. This is troubling as students have repeatedly tried to meet with the administrators involved in the process and show their interest in further discussion, and in seeking alternative solutions to campus safety.
We are concerned with efforts that continue to ignore our right to fully transparent process; It is essential that student discussion and feedback be heard, considered and included before rushing to implement this policy. Please sign this petition and let the Board of Trustees know we are not in favor of a transition to a sworn police force without student input.
We need OUR voices in the discussion!
Come to the Public Forum in the Smith Ballroom on Oct. 7th, from 9:00am to 10:00am about this change that will affect everyone on campus.

GENERAL MEETING TO DISCUSS NEXT STEPS FOR FAIR FACULTY CONTRACTS
Will there be a faculty strike this Spring Term - OR - will the President Wiewel's administration bargain a fair contract with our professors?
This past Thursday's rally was an incredible showing of the overwhelming student support for our professors, so let's keep up the heat!
This general meeting will be a focused discussion around possible strategies and tactics students can take action on if, come Spring Term, there is still no agreement. How will we hold the administration accountable to those it supposedly exists to serve? Let's have a conversation and decide together!
For a general timeline of how a faculty strike may come to pass, visit: http://www.psusu.org/psusu-blog.html

March For Fairness Contract Rally
UPDATE: Hundreds turned out for a Rally For Fairness despite the freezing cold and a university administration that has made it more than apparent that they have absolutely no interest in listening to what anyone else has to say. Photos!
